Sandy Fitzpatrick of Hissyfitz Designs
Although Sandy has been sewing since she was old enough to reach the foot pedal on her mom’s sewing machine, she didn’t begin quilting until about ten years ago. Her early efforts in making quilts were enjoyable but it wasn’t until she began experimenting with her own designs that she really felt she had discovered something wonderful.
Not only does she love the original design aspect, Sandy particularly enjoys machine quilting each of her quilts in a method that does not require marking her quilt tops. She likens her machine quilting to doodling with the needle of the sewing machine.
Originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, Sandy lived a nomadic life for 29 years as she and her husband Joe moved often with the Air Force. Upon his retirement, they settled in Cary, North Carolina. Both of her daughters, Kathleen and Courtney, who always said they would NEVER marry anyone in the military are married to wonderful guys in the Air Force. Her son, Joe, recently graduated from college and is currently living at home again as he pursues his dream job. Sandy is the proud grandmother of Kate, Jackson, and Emma.Sandy has received awards from Capital Quilter’s Guild of Raleigh, North Carolina, the North Carolina Quilt Symposium, and the Mid-Atlantic Wearable Art Festival in Hampton, Virginia.
